About

About ACEM Core

Yale's shared facility for aberration-corrected electron microscopy, open to researchers across Yale and to collaborators beyond.

The ACEM Core at Yale University was established on Yale's West Campus in 2023, and its Thermo Fisher Scientific Spectra Ultra TEM began operation in January 2026. In October 2026, the core began deploying AI agents on its advanced instruments, giving users free access to state-of-the-art large language models during their experiments. These capabilities will continue to evolve to help users produce high-quality results. Alongside our research projects, we train users to take full advantage of these advanced tools.

Our vision

Technical excellence and leadership for the future. We aim to be where advanced microscopy, AI and human expertise work together on hard scientific questions, and where the next generation of researchers learns to lead.
